A Good Affair’s Delightful December Christmas Countdown! ~ Day 21 ~

Sweets, candy and chocolate are big on the agenda around the Holidays… as gifts, as party food, even as casual nibbles around the office.

But one traditional dessert we have yet to mention is the Buche de Noel!  A traditional French roll cake shaped as a yule log. And as traditions go… they evolve over time and variations emerge! Check out these yummy cakes you could bring to your next party!

A Good Affair’s Delightful December Christmas Countdown! ~ Day 17 ~

It is officially ONE WEEK til Christmas Eve. What’s the busier day for you all? Christmas Eve or Christmas Day? Doubtless, it will be filled with friends, family and traditions!

One tradition we have yet to mention is gingerbread house making!
Kids do it in class before Winter Break.
Professionals do it on extravangant level, baking from scratch, and building much more than a house – sometimes a full on village.

What about us normal folk? We pick up a kit (there are MANY MANY to choose from) and have a go at it!
Do it as a group to test your team working skills. Do it solo and show off your own talents.

With the Holiday season, the call to get out there to do good deeds is amplified. Yes, we are all very busy people and do what we can to volunteer or donate during the rest of the year. But around this time, you will probably feel the pressure just a teensy bit more!

There are all sorts of charities and foundations to help out, but here are some things to do for the little ones out there:

Find your nearest drop off location and donate a toy!

Put together a shoe box of gifts for a little boy or girl! Click here for detailed instructions!
There are just a few days left to drop off in Orange County!

You can go to your local B&N, pick out your favorite book and donate to a boy or girl of your choice!

A Good Affair’s Delightful December Christmas Countdown! ~ Day 11 ~

Sometimes gift giving can be tricky. What do you give someone who already has everything? Or maybe you’re trying to stay away from malls this year?

What about an edible gift?! Food is always a special gift… comes from the kitchen, comes from the heart!
And doesn’t it seem like around the Holidays (possibly even starting from Halloween) that candy/chocolate bark comes around?

Bark is really a great gift item – easy to make, lots of variations, and fun to package!

A Good Affair’s Delightful December Christmas Countdown! ~ Day 10 ~

So you’ve finished trimming the tree, decorated the house, mailed out your Christmas cards, and planned your party menu, how about taking a night off, bundling up and heading out to Newport Beach for the annual Christmas Boat Parade!

Here’s a tidbit about it from ChristmasBoatParade.com:

“As Newport Beach’s Christmas Card to the world, the boat parade will set the harbor ablaze for five consecutive nights, beginning Wednesday, December 14 and ending Sunday, December 18, 2011. The parade starts off Bay Island at 6:30 pm and finishes at the same site at approximately 9:00 pm each evening.

Beautiful multi-million dollar yachts, kayaks, canoes and other small boats will light up the harbor as a dazzling array of holiday lights and music fill the air at the Christmas Boat Parade. Many of the boats will be richly decorated with animated Christmas scenes accompanied by music and costumed carolers. Some boat owners in the past have spent over $50,000 to decorate their vessels for the event. The Christmas floats will wind their way some 14 miles around the harbor to give viewers in restaurants, yacht clubs, on public beaches, and in private homes an incredible sight that has delighted millions of people for a century.

The Christmas Boat Parade, which has been hailed as “one of the top ten holiday happenings in the nation” by the New York Times, is truly a magical holiday tradition for all ages. The parade continues to be a premier event during the holiday season in Southern California that brings joy and happiness to all that view it.”
